Wednesday 4/23/14 #463 out and about.

Just happened to take a look at the cameras today, saw a loco down at the water tank -- I assume they watered there, though wasn't on early enough to see it. Now over taking on coal.

Here's a couple videos of the move. Video 1 has a nice whistle blow from the engineer right at the tower - we need to get them all to do that!

Thought I'd add a couple more videos of the day.

First one is simply 463 initiating the newly laid track, back and forth a couple times which I'm sure helps set it in place, then they come up to the ash pit.

Second video - I thought it would be interesting to show moving one of the track sections. You watch these guys long enough, and get a realization, and appreciation, that working on this railroad isn't an easy thing. I think a lot of people think of track work as machines doing 99% of the work, and that may be true for mainline roads. But really an appreciation of how hard things can be -- track section is picked up, loader driver has to fight with going over the rails, an unbalanced load, and the worker on the ground man handling it to a more balanced load until they get it put down and re-lifted in a more balanced way. For those that may not wish to watch a long video, it does run about 10 minutes. At the end, 463 steams out of the yard - at about 3:15 local time.

And as a final note, 463 returned to the yard about 20 minutes after leaving, so a short test run for the day.

Thanks for the photos and videos, gents. I haven't had time to watch at all. Our son was born last week (he was quite early) and life is a blur at the moment. It's nice to see what I missed when I have a moment to check in.

Congratulations on the baby. Trust that the baby, your wife, and you do well. Our family holding their breath on grandchildren who seem determined to make an early entrance, a set of twin boys to one son and a little girl to another son. Grace and peace.

Thanks guys. Momma and baby are ok. Baby is in the NICU at the moment because he was a bit early. But, everything is good and the little guy will be home in a few weeks.
