487 and 488 in that order came down from the engine house and after the usual water and fueling have put on a show.

487 went down to the wye area and returned with three hopper loads of rock and headed east. Meanwhile 488 has pushed the shop goat onto the tipple lead, then crewmen pushed a couple of utility trailers in front of the goat for winter storage,.
488 is now switching MOW cars at the Gramps Oil rack.

Post season switching is getting interesting.

Jason, This would have been a great day to be out there in the yard!

Thanks for all these Larry - with work last night and tonight today was mostly a sleep day for me, so missing most of the fun. Looks like we don't hit the quiet boring times at least for another day! I was able to grab some video from this morning and got 487 heading out with the 3 gondolas, but won't have a chance to upload/post until tomorrow, but will have that coming.

One of my most fond memories is being in Chama Yard the week after closing day. I was in town for a charter the weekend after the end of the season and I was prepared for a quiet week with little-to-no railroad activity. I was wrong!

I spent 2 days walking around while the railroaders worked and was the only non-railroader there. It was awesome!

Jason,
Thanks for posting and jogging my memory. The one picture that I enjoyed the most in all of these was looking down the empty flat through the yard and up to the mountains beyond. Says it all, "Small trains in big country!" Thanks, Larry

You're welcome Larry! Trying to postpone the withdrawal pangs as long as I can!

Shuttle begins from south yard to north yard. 2:15 local time. String going down into swamp at this point. Loco cuts off and heads up engine house lead.

Pulling down blue work sign, moving string down a bit, and taking a car off past oil rack.

Glad to see the little Rogers is back. I have the gas tank for it at school so I can clean the inside and coat it with slushing compound. In the meantime we can keep an eye on it. :-)
