Quite often, at the beginning or the end of the day an engine stops at the far left side of the South Camera view. Are the doing a dump of ashes or spent coals ? How are the ashes disposed of out of view. Just curious.

The ash pit is located there. Ashes have to be dumped in order for the fire in the locomotive to draft properly. I am not sure what is done with the ashes after they go into the pit.

They are allowed to cool and when enough are there, the front end loader comes and gets them. Don't know where it takes them thou!
Out back and buries them? To the sheep dip tank and they get chemicaly altered! I think Roger buys them and reuses them

You can see the ash pit in some of the videos that show the locomotive leaving the round house area.
But I would like to know if they are adding sand when the locomotive stops in front of the coaling tower after all the turning is completed.
