Is there a color coding to the hard hats I see various people wearing?

I don't believe the Friends have a color code. There's a box of assorted colors and you just grab one, or bring your own.

I have to wonder though, if there was a color system in place (like Star Trek), would it be a bad omen to wear a red hat?

Most of the hardhats handed out by the Friends to volunteers are green. Many members bring their own hat to wear.
