10-17-14 Three locomotive move

Unread postby Larry Sullivan » Fri Oct 17, 2014 12:47 pm

Just happened to pull up the cameras to find a triple-header of sorts. #489 pushing a cold #463 and #488 - down at the water tank, moving back to spotting in front of the roundhouse.
Still of the three in front of the roundhouse - video is uploading of part of the move from the water tank, I wasn't watching at the beginning.

Larry, I happened to tune in just a few minutes before you did. 489 was having a heck of a time pulling the two "dead engines" up the grade from the ash pit. It slipped its drivers repeatedly, and for a while there, I would have been willing to bet that it wasn't going to make it (I would have lost the bet, though ;-) ). Curiously, the trip to the tank was to fill the tender on 488, which had been drained several days ago. Once that was taken care of, it was literally all downhill, as you captured it in your video.

Thanks Edwin and Larry,
I was really stumped when the 488 pulled out with the train this morning. Now I know the rest of the story!
