Busy day in Chama yard

Unread postby Quentin Lockwood » Tue Feb 04, 2014 6:47 am

Lot of activity in the Chama yard Monday. #15, The Ashby, was pulled partially from the engine house and fired up. Seemd to struggle for a long time to get enough power to move out and make a few short trips aroung the yard before it moved over to the shop lead and attempted to push the loco nearest to the camera into the shop. It took the Ashby, two end loaders and the big forklift to coax the engine slowly into the shop. After that was done, the Ashby pulled the two cabooses beside the engine house siding and stashed them in the yard near the depot. Then the flanger was pulled out and moved to a yard track and the two cabooses moved back to their original place. The shuffling of equipment took a good portion of the day. At some point, the red/orange machine that has been beside the stack of ties was moved into either the shop or engine house. Don't know what it is but think someone said it was a mobile crane at another time. It wasn't coal smoke and steam but diesel smoke and yard activity does help pass a snowy winter day.
