Microphones?

Unread postby Bill Grierson » Thu Jun 30, 2022 6:11 am

I asked back in March if there were any plans on getting sound back with the webcams and was told that this was Jason Rose's project. Has anyone heard from Jason Rose? I have not seen any postings on this site as well as several other sites to which he would occasionally post.

Thanks,

It's a known issue. As soon as I can return to Chama, I'll fix it. However, that may be a year away. My growing family now owns and dictates my schedule and finances.

Bill, I am aware of the issue but haven't been able to return to Chama to fix it. It's a 2000 mile round trip and with a young toddler, I just can't get away for the necessary time. And, of course, that 2000 mile trip will now cost a helluva lot more than it used to.

I hope to get up there some time this year. If not, I'll be up there in the spring for another Friend's project and will address the issue then.

Jason, just wondering if this fix is something that another Friend member with some experience in electronics could correct if the parts were sent up and some guidance from you over the phone?

Yes, ma'am. That would be possible if the person was a member and part of a Work Session.

The necessary parts are inexpensive. However, both locations require climbing and aren't for the faint-of-heart.

So far, none of the regular camera crew have been available to tackle the job.

Also, it's been 3 years since I installed the mics and I have no idea what condition they're in. So, there may well be additional/new issues to be addressed.

Expensive travel out to the C&TS, you bet. I'm leaving Jacksonville, FL by SouthWest Airlines on 9/28 and going out to do my docent job
the last 3 weeks of the season. At 83, I have no business driving 1500 miles or so each way, so SWA gets me to Albuquerque and Hertz
gets me to Chama - a rental car for 24 days, I didn't plan to make a down payment on it, i just want to rent it, but it is what it is. Two
years ago it cost 1/2 as much for the same time period.

:stop:

The Cameras have been down since sometime after that late departure on August 30. A couple of weeks prior to that, the AOC had not
arrived in Chama by 8pm MDT which is when I go to bed in Florida. Next Morning the equipment was in place. They have been turning
the engine at Osier and the 488 took the train out that morning. Later I learned there was a hot journal issue on the engine. I hope it
was not a driver journal as those require a lot effort to repair and can keep a engine out of service for a long time.

Jerry, the cameras are up and working. There may have been some brief outages due to power, but no significant outages that I'm aware of.

See another members comment about some issue between Chrome & the camera site. After seeing that comment, I checked the site on FireFox and the site is working fine on FireFox.

Good to hear, Jerry.

I don't know what the issue is with Chrome. Mine has been working.

I discovered what the issue was, and another friend who had the same issue confirmed it. Apparently Chrome had started an update and needed to finish which evidently required a manual instruction to do so. When this was provided update completed in about 1 second, after which the cameras were seen fine.
