viewtopic.php?f=79&t=5877We had a second double header in a row this holiday weekend with 488 and 487 taking a 9 car 216 out of Chama. In the afternoon 488, once back from Cumbres, spent several hours switching in south yard building a freight train and actually only finished just before 215 arrived so had to stay in south yard until 215 unloaded and headed to the wye. Train 215 itself was a 9 car train with K36 489 leading.

viewtopic.php?f=79&t=5879&p=25986#p25986The day began early with 488 coming out and moving about like it was getting ready for something, got fire cleaned, water and coal, and then it went back to the house. It turned out to be a busy morning in Chama. I think the hostlers got 488 ready and to the south yard lead way early and were told to take it back to the house until it was needed. The road crew for 488 picked it up and moved it to the special freight and waited. 484 came out for regular train 216 and it departed close to the 10am time with 7 cars. The freight pulled forward right behind the 216 but stopped at the tank, taking water and waiting time and finally departed at 10:30 am. Regular train 215 came into Chama behind 487 with 7 cars. The special freight arrived back into Chama close to 90 minutes behind the 215.

viewtopic.php?f=79&t=5882&p=25995#p25995Again we had the 2 trains departing Chama this morning with 216 going out first with 7 cars behind 489, then the freight lead by 488 departed. In the afternoon 215 came in behind 484 with 7 cars. The freight returned to Chama about 5:25 pm. After the train was turned on the wye, 488 spent time getting the 315 and its 2 cars out from the depot track so they could get ready to the special train to commemorate the Chili line.

viewtopic.php?f=79&t=5887We have 2 trains again today with this being the students last day. 216 went out with 487 and 7 cars while the freight had 2 extra cars today, the RPO and coach which will be used on the Chili Line special are headed to Antonito, though I expect, since the freight is only going as far as Cumbres or Osier, will be left for a later train to take. This should give these advanced students a nice train handling experience with the extra weight going up the hill. Train 215 came in behind 489 with 7 cars and the students were in 2 hours later and after heading to the wye and yarding their train ended their experience.

viewtopic.php?f=79&t=5891Train 216 went out today with 7 cars behind 488. In the afternoon the private speeder owners started to gather with their cars for a weekend of fun on the C&TS. 484 brought in train 215 with the normal 7 cars.

viewtopic.php?f=79&t=5896In the morning train went out with 7 cars with 489 leading. The advanced school students did some switching then took their freight out of Chama. Later the speeders came back from Antonito. Afternoon train 215 came in behind 484 with 7 cars. A bit later the freight returned for the day.
9/11/18 - 9/14/18 I will be away so no posting from me. Also Florence is headed to me so we may loose power and that would take me out.

viewtopic.php?f=79&t=5904&p=26088#p26088Currently the tipple cams are not working so probably no video and maybe no stills for the trains until fixed. Morning train 216 went out with 8 cars but no idea which locomotive was pulling. Cams were fixed around noon so we have the arrival video and stills. There is also a sunset dinner train headed up to Cumbres, usually leaves around 5pm MDT, 489 is now getting ready. Evening 215 came in with 8 cars behind 488. The extra coach was removed after the train was wyed and 489 coupled on and took the sunset train out.

viewtopic.php?f=79&t=5911This morning we really had a treat with a 14 car 'mixed' train 216 depart Chama with 487 and 484. There were 4 freight cars between the 487 and 484. 463 came into Chama with an unusual 11 car train 215.

viewtopic.php?f=79&t=5923&p=26170#p26170The 216 was quite the train with 16 cars. Five box cars behind the 484 helper then 11 cars behind 463. There were 7 coaches, café, open gon, tourist and parlor. In the evening a late 215 was also a treat with 13 cars behind 487, 11 passenger cars broken down same as 216 then an additional open gon and caboose on the back. Also in the morning the 315 decked out as DRG 425 went out with the RPO and coach.

viewtopic.php?f=79&t=5931For train 216 I have a few stills but the streams froze on me so no departure. The RGS Goose 5 arrived into Chama this afternoon to begin a week long stay so we will see a lot of it. The Goose left for its check ride just as 489 came into Chama with an 8 car 215. The 315 came in about 6:30 pm MDT with an interesting mixed train and the Goose returned later at twilight.

viewtopic.php?f=79&t=5936The day began with a strange set of move. The 484 comes out before dawn and goes through the normal prep and couple to 2 cars in the connection track. Moves them around then goes and couples to the train. All of this prior to 8am. The Goose 5 leaves for its Osier turn around 8:30 am and is back in Chama just before 5 pm. Train 216 is 8 cars behind 484. The afternoon 215 has 8 cars and comes in behind 487. After the 215 is in and turned we find the 15 doing some switching in the yard.

viewtopic.php?f=79&t=5938In the morning, 489 and 487 come out to begin the day so we know a double header is going to happen. Which they are being prepped for train 216, the Goose 5 leaves Chama for its run to Antonito. 489 get 2 more extra coaches from south yard so we have an 11 car train set up. Then, using the whole train, they go back into south yard and grab 2 freight cars which are coupled on the rear. Train 216 is now 13 cars long as it leaves Chama. In the afternoon, 215 come in with 11 cars behind 484.

It is out of Chama before the start of the regular day's prep. Train 216 went out behind 487 with 8 cars. In the afternoon, Goose 5 returned to Chama ahead of train 215. Then 215 comes in with 8 cars behind 489.
