The geology train comes over today with an approximate 6 pm MDT arrival in Chama. Also looks like 484 is back hot so we have 487 and 484 ready this morning. Must have rained again last night since there are still puddles in the yard. Good news, Durango is getting rain this morning.

As 484 backs down to the coal dock lead, 487 is now at the pit

So what is going to happen this morning??? 487 just went back to the tank to wet down the coal, 484 did not do it this morning.
Today's train 216 has 8 passenger cars as will as other attached to the back.

If the entire student freight is coupled on the back that is 10 cars including the caboose which would give us an 18 car train headed up to Cumbres. That I would love to chase and hope Roger is on this.

This train stretches in both directions as it passes the tipple. You can see the larger of the fire trucks waiting to move behind the train.

I would think that there was an extra trainman riding in the caboose along with the conductor and trainman on the passenger cars.

Not that I'm arguing - I love long trains and I cannot lie! - but any idea as to why the long mixed consist today?

After turning on the wye, the 487 sits at the depot for a couple minutes, the moves to the sand house. A tourist chats with the engineer, then the tourist heads elsewhere; the engineer heads in & out of the cab several times, as if hes checking something. Then the 487 is taken to the shop lead, has the ash pan cleaned & taken to the engine shop for servicing.

After a long stay in the engine house, 488 has come back into the light.

Freight cars on the end of 216 are going initially to Los Pinos for storage.
Guests on the caboose are Friends members who were offered a ride to Cumbres.
There was an extra brake man in the caboose for the trip to Los Pinos.
I believe Roger got footage on departure, at Dalton and at the pass.
Footage at the pass may be limited since it was foggy.

Thanks Pete, Roger has already posted the Dalton footage from the drone. So they are going to fill up the siding at Los Pinos with these cars.

After setting out the cars used for the Geology Train, the 463 takes sand at the sand house, & gets the ash pan cleaned. Because of the 487 (or 489- hard to tell) the crew are currently (as I type this) taking the 463 the long way to the back of the engine shop for servicing.
