Something is working. At this moment (7:28 AM MST) 3885 virtual visits have been made to Antonito, Colorado by people who have probably never even seen or stepped into the Conejos River. These same folks have viewed the results of hours of efforts to bring back some of the glory and excitement of being a part of the narrow gauge railroad experience. It has also been a chance for C&TSR Friends to do a bit of bragging. When the Toyman video is finished, many of us are thinking or even saying to a companion, "Wow, look at we are doing!"

Toyman and Toywoman recently provided a wonderful video about their trip aboard a caboose ride courtesy of C&TSR. (I'll probably bring that video back since it was so well produced.) This time, they make a trip to Antonito to watch the reconstruction of Engine 168. This video deserves a special viewing for two reasons. First, so little is seeen on the WebCam Forum concerning Antonito since they have no webcam. Yet, they are a vital and integral part of the operation of the C&TSR. Second, the video showcases the restoration of Locomotive 168, which is so close to the hearts of many narrow gauge railroaders, especially the Friends of the C&TSR. So enjoy and share with your friends...you might also give the "ToyPeople a big thumbs up on YouTube when you view the video.

We journey to Antonito Colorado on a restored Rio Grande Southern caboose to see the restoration of Denver and Rio Grande Western ten wheeler 168. ****************************************************************** These locomotives were built in 1880 for passenger service. Ten wheeler locomotives were ideal for passenger service, these were classed as T-12 locomotives by the Rio Grande classification system. Two still exist, this one in Antonito Colorado and 169 in Alamosa Colorado. (Which is also being restored) ********************************************* 168 is being restored by the Friends of the Cumbres and Toltec, in conjunction with the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad. The C&TS railroad is a 62 mile long surviving section of the Denver and Rio Grande Colorado Narrow Gauge Railroad. The Durango and Silverton is also a surviving section of this three foot gauge line. ******************************************************************* From the web: A recognized leader in the railroad preservation field, the 2100-member Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, Inc. is the official museum arm of the C&TS, managing the preservation, interpretive, museum and restoration functions of the railroad. In particular, the Friends has assumed the responsibility of preserving all of the railroad’s historic assets that are not used in the regular tourist train operation, and interpreting the railroad to the public. The Friends got its start in 1988 when founding president, Bill Lock, grew concerned that no one was caring for the railroad’s irreplaceable collection of historic equipment and structures. Bill had recently read “The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad The Historic Preservation Study” by Spencer Wilson and Vern J. Glover. That year, he convinced the railroad to let him and a friend paint and refurbish an old refrigerator car body. Lock and a growing number of volunteers returned to the railroad each summer thereafter, primarily concentrating on the stabilization and restoration of rolling stock. by Daryl Angell and Karen

I reviewed the 168 Restoration Video and was pleasantly surprised to find that it had this number of views at 2:00 PM.
Wonderful exposure for the Friends, C&TSR, and the renovation project.
