Train Shows

Unread postby Tim Tennant » Fri Feb 08, 2013 9:05 am

The Friends continue to be very active in having a presence at a number of train shows across the country. Bob & Holly Ross staffed a Great Train Expo show in Indianapolis, IN during January as did Doug Rossiter in Columbus, OH. Cal & Peter Smith had a booth at the annual Amherst Railway Society Train Show in Springfield, MA January 26th & 27th. At that event, Cal Smith accepted a grant check for the Friends in the amount of $1,800 from the Amherst Railway Society towards the rebuild of a flat car that we will be undertaking in a partnership with the Sandia High School woodshop class in Albuquerque.

Some shows that are coming up include; Bob Hey will be staffing a table at the Mad City Train Show in Madison, WI on February 16th & 17th. Jim & Lynne Herron and Doug Christensen will be staffing a booth at the Hostler's Train Show in Ogden, UT March 1st, 2nd & 3rd. John Engs and a number of Friends members will have a table at the Rocky Mountain Toy Train Show in Denver on March 2nd & 3rd.

This is great outreach and it provides us the opportunity to talk about the Friends and the railroad to these audiences across the country. We encourage Friends members who may be attending these shows to stop by our booths and say hello. We also continue to search for new shows were the Friends could make an appearance. If anyone has suggestions and would like to staff such a show or event, just let us know.

We appreciate the efforts of all our members who have staffed these events and those who continue to do so. This is a great way to be involved if you can't make it to Chama or Antonito for a work session.

Tim,
Thanks for the information and update. Where will the flat car project work be done? Will the rebuilding work be done by the class alone or will the Friends have any part in the project? Do we know the number of the flat car?
Thanks again,
Fred Kuhns

Fred, the shop class will perform the work with guidance from the Friends. I believe we are looking at flatcar 9557 for the project.
