Today the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad (Denver & Rio Grande Railroad San Juan Extension) was designated a National Historic Landmark by Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar. The C&TS was one of twenty new National Historic Landmarks that received designation. This is great news and many thanks to Keith Hayes for leading this effort and for all the hard work he put in during this process. The actual process started back in August 2009. The Cumbres & Toltec now joins approximately 2,500 other sites in the National Historic Landmark program around the country.

Dealing with any govt agency is never an easy or enjoyable task so when someone perseveres and accomplishes such a monumental event as this mere thanks yous or kudos never seem to be enough. Well done and thank fou for being there for the railroad. Great news. Russ

Very exciting news!
As Russ said, it must've been an arduous endeavor to get this done. My thanks to all that made it happen.
