12-05-13 Snow Conditions Photos (Locomotive Swap)

Unread postby Roger Hogan » Thu Dec 05, 2013 4:33 pm

I wanted to see what the snow was like for the upcoming Locomotive Swap on Saturday the 7th of December. When I was up on the hill strong wind and light snow still falling. We saw drifts that IMHO are going to be 4ft. The stake is only at 2ft but the drifts from the wind are much higher.

Winter wonderland! How much snow can they comfortably plow through?

The snow conditions make that decision. Dry snow my guess is 4 or 5 feet. What we have had so far has been dry snow.

Going to be cool seeing 84.5 tons of locomotive blasting through the snow.

Roger and Joe, I'm really looking forward to seeing your photos on Saturday.

I'm sitting this one out. I can't get out of Texas safely. Frankly it would be risking my life... And I can't do that with a baby on the way.

It took me 2 hours of hard deliberating to come to this decision. What clinched it is that this storm may last 2-3 more days and strand me in Chama, or worse.

Oh well, it is what it is...

Jason, you made the right call, it isn't a fun call, but it is the right call. There will be other times, I will see you when the rotary runs again.

Jason,
Thinking of you tonight and the disappointment you feel. There will be other times. We have so many that willingly share their photos and videos it will be almost like being there. Congrats on the family news too!!!! Larry

Thanks, Larry.

It's hard to be real upset about this when I think about what the stork is bringing.
