Flatcar 9569 moves to Sandia High School for Restoration

Unread postby Tim Tennant » Mon Aug 26, 2013 2:58 pm

In a partnership effort with Albuquerque Public Schools, flatcar 9569 was moved from Chama to Sandia High School in Albuquerque on Wednesday August 21. Sandia High's woodworking class will be undertaking the replacement of the wood decking. The Friends have secured a couple of grants which will assist in funding this project. This represents a great learning opportunity for the students in the woodworking class at Sandia High School. Our thanks to Friends Board Member Dan Pyzel who was instrumental in making this opportunity possible.

That is just way to cool! A terrific school project, and a terrific way to get more NG stuff restored. Congrats to all concerned! I love it! Russ

And why couldn't my high school have this class! I would have taken that course just to work on that flatcar!!! Oh well... Maybe my college will have a similar class :)
Enjoy

Well at least one time I dragged over a hydralic spike puller from OERM to get running for a track removal project. When they got it running I brought in a tie, spikes and spike maul to let them have a try at driving spikes. They walked away with a new appreciation on how much work laying a railroad was back in the day.

Any chance we will see photos of their progress? What a great idea. Thanks for the work to make that happen.
