This was posted on the NGDF but is well worth looking at. The skill level of this camera man controlling the helicopter is incredible! I would find the money to buy him a season pass on the R/R if we could get more great stuff like this all along the line. Can you imagine a rotary snowplow event being covered at this angle? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWedSayZ ... e=youtu.be :smiley24:

John,
I agree that this video is awesome and has a lot of potential for getting the word out about the C&T. In the short term, it'd be great if social-media users among us "share" the railroad's Facebook post yesterday on the video to our own FB friends. Down the road, maybe the video can have other uses if the railroad can work out something with the filmmaker/videographer who made it.
BTW, in communicating with other Friends about the video, I learned that the maker was in Chama with several camera drones on the Sunday between C and D work sessions this year. I gather the fact that it was a Sunday means the train was running only between Chama and Cumbres, so that partially explains the choices of shooting locations for the video.

Thanks for posting that John, that is one amazing video, great photography and well edited. I can remember a few weeks back seeing someone in the yard on the webcams with one of those drones flying as the train left one day, might have been the same maker of that video. My only complaint is I wish we got to hear the train, not the music but perhaps the drone noise would have made that impossible. Might have to think about getting one of those for the video work we do. Hopefully the C&T can work something out with this filmmaker, would be a great promotional film for sure!

I watched a few videos on how to fly and take pictures with them and every one of them says that the helicopter and it's props make so much noise you couldn't hear anything below. Oh well, the music is great.

Larry, As a promotional piece, trying to attract more than just rail fans, I think the music works better than the sound of the train.
As far as the noise generated by the drone , I'm sure it's significant. The cooling fan on a web cam is bad enough.

Looking at the YouTube page as well as seeing it over on trainorders, this video has won the grand prize. Congrats to the filmmaker, it is a great piece of work. And Rich you are 100% correct that as a promotional video, the music does work better -- just selfish railfan thinking wanted the train sound!!
