Relive the spirit that won the West on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. Absorb grand vistas before you wind between rock capped mesas and through tunnels. Peer deep into Toltec Gorge and achieve the summit of Cumbres Pass. Built in 1880, the Cumbres & Toltec was part of the Denver & Rio Grande San Juan Extension into the silver rich San Juan Mountains near Silverton. Service on this portion of the line was discontinued in 1969 but the railroad, including it's equipment and buildings was saved by the States of New Mexico and Colorado.
