Anyone know the status of #489 as I have not seen her out working this year?

I know it came over the hill from Antonito with a publicity train at the end of last week, but you are right, I haven't seen it make any of the scheduled runs this week.

To answer the question regarding the 489: the staff are using the engine as needed because of low boiler days.

Process of elimination of the FRA Part 230 1472 day rebuild:

483: never had a rebuild under C&TS Ownership

492, 494, 495: never operated under C&TS Ownership

497: awaiting a 1472 rebuild.

463: has a rebuild in the 1990's, then again starting 2009, ended in 2013 (next 1472 rebuild: sometime between 2020 & 2024)

484: had a rebuild between closing day 2012 & the winter of 2013-2014 ( next 1472 rebuild: around the same time period as the 463)

487: had a rebuild between closing day 2014 & well into the 2015 season (next 1472 rebuild: 2024-2025 period)

488: had a rebuild a year or 2 ago (next 1472 rebuild: 2025-2027)

With that in mind, the 489 should be next to have a 1472 day rebuild either at the end of the 2018 season or at the end of the 2019 season. (next rebuild after the one this engine will have will be between 2027-2029.
