Engine 488, Hot Journal?

Unread postby Jerry Sullivan » Wed Sep 07, 2022 6:17 am

The Antonito to Chama train had not arrived in Chama by 8pm a few weeks back and the 488 had gone east that morning. Engines
have been turning at Osier and so I would have expected the 488 to be back that night. Later I learned that the engine had run a
hot journal, so I wonder what it's current status is. If it was a driver journal, that can involve dropping the driver set, and then
if the journal is scored, it can involve turning the set on a big lathe & polishing out the score mark, a lot of work?
