Hi Greg, I talked to Mike Thode about this project, and since he worked with Dick Cowles team on the 483 taking off all the 'stuff' to get her ready for the asbestos abatement years ago, we felt he would be better qualified for this job. Mike is right now working on the 463 engine rebuild team, with all of that current experience, he will know where everything goes. Mike was the team leader on the 0503 Caboose rebuild, so you have seen some of the great work his team does.
I traded the 483 job for his job of replacing the 8"X12"X 18' header on the Cumbres Pass snow shed this summer. My team did repair work on the shed in 2007, so I believe it is a better fit for both of us.

That sounds like a wise move. You better start working on your fitness level John. 10000 feet elevation!

Very true Greg. I can work all day at either end of the R/R at 8,000 feet, but when we worked up on the pass at 10,000ft, it kicks yer butt! I'd better start getting in shape for this caper.
