Work on the paint car 3686

: Painting the second of the end opening doors

: The fully mounted door with all its hardware and stop

: The work continues on the paint car as one of the team grinds on the upper door guide

: Two other mount the lower door guides

: Getting the stop mounted on the sliding side door

: The cut lever is on one end of the of the paint car, looks like the B end since that vertical rod could be the brake wheel rod

: The members of the hard working team trying to get as much done on the paint car before the session ends

Several from the car inspectors house at Cumbres Pass

: Working further on the porch roof at the car inspectors house

: Installing the edge flashing

The restoration of the paint car 3686

: On box car 3476, one end has its sheathing done

: Fitting the floor boards prior to nailing

: Getting the flooring nailed in

: Its simple but necessary

: Making wheel stops for the track in the CRF

Attaching a coupler to one of the tank cars, most probably the Gramps

: Using the front end loader to pick up 2 couplers for the tank car

: Being directed into the CRF to place them on that pallet

: Gingerly, these things can crush, they coax them onto the pallet

: Doing some grinding on the couple shaft to get it to fit in properly

: Again using the loader, the team is now moving one of the couplers into the pocket before putting on the tank car

: Some smiling faces as the coupler fits into its new pocket

: Now that the coupler is in the pocket, its lifted up into the coupler housing on the car

: Looks like the pin has been driven into place

Tank car coupler installation continued

: Wal lah, the coupler is now in place on the car

Some other work

: Outside, one member is priming metal parts

: The primed metal pieces are being place together

Chris says the Friends bought them new, and thankfully they bought four, so we have enough for the latest Gramps tanker we got last year.

Looking at the pictures, I thought that they were new since they had a bar coded stock sticker on them.

Chris says that the custom made spring pack adaptor was custom made back in Pennsylvania near his work and each one weighs about 300#. He lugs another one out here for session G so it should go a lot faster now that the learning curve is (hopefully) over.

Thanks John for the update! I hope the friends will put a tank car special together soon! Chris, Randy and others have done a great job in restoring these cars.
