I have been looking at a design for a coal fired boiler for a K27 for 3.5" gauge, and frankly I do not think it is as good as it could be. My problem is that I do not have any proper drawings for the full sized boiler, so am unable to see the actual size of the boiler and its internal layout. Modellers' drawings are not sufficiently detailed to get this information.
Does anyone know if a boiler drawing for the K27's exists, and if so where? If possible I would like to purchase a paper copy or download a scan of such a thing.

Fred, I can't answer your question directly, but may I suggest contacting the Colorado Railroad Museum? If the plans exist, I'm sure they've got a copy.

I'll also alert Tim to your request. If the Friends have a copy because of the 463 project, Tim would know where they are.

We will take a look as to what we have. We might be able to help.

Many thanks for your help. I contacted the Colorado Railroad museum and still await a reply. I will also contact Marty Knox shortly. I did find the page with the video of the fitting of the boiler to 464 and learned quite a bit from that regarding the shape of the firebox etc.

Unfortunately the Bachmann link is for an electric model, I was looking for drawings of the original 1903 built locomotives and I am actively following up the previous suggestions at this time, but thanks for trying.

As I said, I have contacted Marty Knox, but he was unable to help as the folks that lent him the drawings have asked that no one else can get sight of them. Kind of helpful, especially as I believe Marty may be a commercial builder and I just a hobbyist thousands of miles away. Enough griping. So if any of you who offered the possibility of looking for such a drawing, I would be more than grateful if you could continue to do so. I think the Colorado Railroad Museum are in the middle of internal re-organisation, so they may be out of it for the time being.

did u notice he is looking for a boiler plan so he can see if his plan is better or worse? Live Steam is doing a build by Kozo of a K-27 in a small scale. Maybe Little engines may have something as they were going to offer a K-27 in 2.5 scale. You might be able to hire Marty Knox to evaluate the plan you have. He is a code builder of small boilers.

Thanks for the further comments. Much as I admire the quality of drawings and the precision of the work being produced on the first model of the K27 in the Live Steam Magazine, when it comes to design for serious passenger hauling on the 3.5" gauge it has regressed to the designs produced by Henry Greenly in the early 1900's. Hence my decision to look at bringing it up to date with super-heat etc. I must stress this is more of a hobby thing, but to start a proper design for my own interest I need the basic information hence my needing a copy of the original boiler drawing. As I said before I am quite happy to pay sensible costs.
