It is wonderful to see the sandhouse coming together. What (if anything) else is needed to make it fully functional ?

It's fully functional. The crew had to fine tune the flapper valve on the bottom of the hopper, and will re-install it tomorrow, but it should be good to go. It wasn't stopping the flow of sand completely, due to being slightly bent from long time use. The Cole Compressor is only being used in lieu of locomotive air pressure, which will normally be use to charge the system. The hopper should hold enough sand for 3-4 locomotive fills.

Doug, thanks for the update. I understand the sand is then fed into the locomotive sand dome through a hose. Is this accomplished by gravity or is the sand under locomotive air pressure, or maybe both?

Also, a big reservoir tank is needed.

The locomotive compressed air will do the job too.

Is RGS #1714, the newly painted boxcar here, formerly D&RG # O4258, the Sectionmen's Car, project 1295 ?? The chimney for the stove is the clue.
