I'm guessing that the bettendorf trucks are being worked on now so that they may be put under whatever the archbar trucks (needed for the frameless tank cars) are under now. ???

Rich we are putting them right back under the tank cars we removed them from after they get either their wheels reprofiled or replaced. Hopefully we will have the wheels ready when we return in session G.

John, my "recollector" says that frameless tank cars of the era had archbar trucks. I'm willing to be corrected as sometimes I can't remember what I had for supper last night.

The narrow frame tank car has 53" wheelbase arch bars, and the frameless tankers received the Bettendorf trucks taken off the 34' stock cars (like the 5995 car) when they were scrapped in the 1930s. The frameless tankers were originally standard gauge so using the Bettendorf during the conversion saved the railroad money. When the White Pass bought the tank cars from the D&RG they must have gotten those arch bars replaced with Bettendorf, and that is why the 6 cars the Friends bought from White Pass had Bettendorf.

When the Friends went to Alder Gulch Montana years ago for three 2 week work sessions to get 13 arch bar trucks which have now been placed under the narrow frame tankers freeing up their trucks for the frameless cars as well as the 5995 stock car.

Not to my knowledge Craig, I was out sick since Thursday afternoon but I believe I heard that the work is being done on Wed next week.

Short answer then would be frameless tank cars had bettendorf and the others had archbar. Thanks and I'll adjust my recollector.
I hope you're feeling better and also that Joanie didn't get whatever you did.
