I have been using a 500mm for many years so now I have to learn the new 800mm. I need to get some new train & wildlife poster shots to pay for it. I hooked up the 1dx body and did a couple of test shots and IMHO it is going to be different. To soon to tell if I like it or not. With the 1dx body it weights a little over 11 pounds. I handhold for my shots at least 90% of the time, this is my arm exercise since I don't do weights.

So far I am a happy camper. Now I have to get used to holding it cuz it is heavy = 11 pounds.

Just a thought, Roger, but maybe something like a harness to help hold your camera closer to your chest? I think TV cameramen use something like that. Good luck in your search!

Thanks, I have one and after a couple more days I am going to try it.
