I have heard stories about the bridge that crossed Wolf Creek North of town on old highway 17. I and numerous others have looked for it and have never found any trace so I went exploring with the drone and I found it. I have been told they stopped using it during the 1960's.

It is amazing that this bridge is very evident on Google Earth when you know where to look.

After I found it I looked it up on Google Earth.

Is that really the old Hwy 17 crossing, Roger? I thought that was the old wagon road. Maybe they merge for the crossing.

I believe the NM & CO highway departments started rebuilding and realigning 17 in 1969, during the time the railroad was closed. Ernie Robart has some nice photos of that work being done.

Jason you could be right. All I know is I heard of the bridge and now we found it.

In the shots it looks asphalt and I would not think a wagon road would have that kind of surface.

Agreed. I'm wondering if the RoW's merged for the crossing.

You can clearly see what I assume is the grade of the old wagon road running parallel to 17. It looks the same in this area as it does near Osier. I could be wrong, however. Maybe what I'm seeing is the old Hwy 17 grade.

??? maybe the old 17 was in the same place as the wagon road ???

I am going to go back and see if I can get more detain of before and after the bridge.
