Two series 3000 box cars located in a junk yard in Manassa Colorado due to be scrapped had all metal parts salvaged by a crew on Saturday October 17th
The cars were numbered 3262 &3606. As you can see they were beyond saving. Four doors, two complete murphy roofs and lots and lots of metal hardware were saved. The team consisted of Russ Hanscom and Bob Kohler (pictured), Bill Lowes, Bill Kepner, Dan Pyzel,Doug Frederick (helper Russ) Don Atkinson, Randy Quinlan, Tom Simco and TL John Engs.
A full trailer load of material was saved and transported to The Friends Antonito property.
4 buckets full of parts saved!
Monday October 19 Found Valley Lowrance continuing her floor painting in the CRF - which makes sweeping and cleaning so much easier. Ed did a bit of bolt sorting at the new bolt bins. Meanwhile Marvin and yard crew shuffled cars - so that the Gray cars are now on track 2 in the Car Shelter for the winter - OB OP and 053 specifically.
Looks like you guys are getting a lot done there. I am SO GLAD that the rider gon is staying inside this winter as all of those sills would twist like a barber pole if they were left outside this winter.
For those who don't know, that metal all of that hardware in the trailer and buckets is that hard to find, 'unobtainium' , hard to get, and VERY EXPENSIVE to replace!
I believe those are the cars that Mike Thode found out about and let John Engs know about them. I wonder why the corner braces were left, do we have plenty, or did they run out of time. Altogether it looks like a successful trip.
