Thanks for the great photo essay Ed. I was privileged to work with a great team that stayed with that job until finished. Those cars were in rough shape and three days and almost 6 tons of sand later they were cleaned down to bare metal and almost ready to paint. I had to go home early Wed evening so George took over and he, Al, and Andy finished up prep and had both of them primed by Thursday evening. Great guys to work with, we worked hard and enjoyed working with each other.

After spreading 7 tons of sand, the swamp should have a sandy beach! Seriously, that was a heck of an undertaking, and we'll all be excited to see the end results next summer.

Thanks Ed, I think I can speak for everyone that it was dusty, hard work. You get into that rig and George and I tried to keep working until the pot ran out of sand, and we had to wear ear plugs because of the noise. The face shield would get so pitted that it would be hard to see through it and then there was the dust. You would think that with 6 tons of sand there would be a beach, but that stuff would be flying about 50' all directions so it really got spread out. I am still finding dust in my stuff...

I felt bad having to go home early and back to work, but these guys just kept working and got the job finished by Thursday evening. Didn't they do a great job on the priming? Looks like the start of a milk car unit train.
