An SG flat car, rescued by the Friends from the Chama rail yard swamp several years ago, is now being converted to a rider gondola as requested by the railroad. When it was rescued, "glue lams" were installed for center sills because they are stronger than the historic wood (no longer available). The reconstructed rider gondola is designed to be easily reversible when the railroad needs the car as an equipment hauling flat. The SC flat was chosen by the railroad for conversion after previous cars selected by them were found to be unusable due to failed sills.
