BUSY DAYS IN ANTONITO AND CHAMA - AND, HARD TO BELIEVE, ONLY ONE MORE DAY OF WORK SESSION A! Ed Lowrance has provided us with a good variety of photos from the Antonito side today to show the volunteers' progress.
He also made it over to the old visitor center near the corner of Highways 285-17 where the Antonito merchants are establishing a museum. Headed up by Antonito businesswoman Sandra Gray, this initiative will include exhibits from the Friends as well as those from the San Luis Valley.
Here are Thursday's photos:

- Friends' Board Chairman Craig McMullen finishes painting the ceiling in Cook Car 053. One set of the trucks being made by the Friends are planned to underpin this car.
-
- A new use for the pallet jack: Grant Ball is using it as a portable adjustable height layout table! Thank you, John Cole. That is a truck part for Tourist Sleeper 470 restoration that Grant's working on.

- Antonito businesswoman Sandra Gray, in collaboration with some Antonito merchants, is spearheading a museum in the old Visitor Center building. The Friends are supporting this effort with photo exhibits and a donated train model. L-R, Friends' Intern John Ferrell, Friends' President Tim Tennant, Sandra Gray, and Board member Bob Ross are shown in the soon-to-open building.

- Ed Lowrance power washes the potty/concession car (3244), removing loose paint in preparation for painting during Work Session B.
-
- When Rider Gondola 1357 flooring was removed, severely compromised sills were judged to be unrepairable. C&TSRR President John Bush helped make that call. This car will not be repaired as a full teardown is required. John will send a new car over on the Saturday train for rehabilitation. The railroad plans to use it for the Geology Charter. Volunteer Clyde Putman is already eyeing parts he can remove and put on other cars!

- Russ Hanscom is repairing an area of the potty/concession car that had some rot in a corner post. The repair area is now covered with standard siding.
-
- Y'ALL COME TO JOIN THE FRIENDS FOR A FUN TIME! Look what was on the dessert table today!! Better than a cruise, folks! Patty Hanscom and Mary Jane Smith set out carrot cake, prune cake, chocolate cake, lemon cake and "sock-it-to-me" cake. A sugar high had by all!

- Jim McGee and Chuck Deuker build a framework for the Antonito Car Shelter's south gable end. They wear safety harnesses for this skylift work, but no hard hats as they are welding.
